Trip to Atlanta, Emancipation Day, condolences

Trip to Atlanta: Mary Virginia Reid of Purcellville and her granddaughter Tamille traveled to Atlanta Aug. 14-17. They visited Ms. Reid’s daughter, Greta, and granddaughter, Tasha. While in Atlanta, Ms. Reid and her family were able to visit Katherine Ann Summers as well. Greta returned to Virginia for a week to vacation and visit with relatives.
Emancipation Day: Emancipation Day will be celebrated in Purcellville on Saturday, Sept. 20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the historic Emancipation Grounds/Carver Center, located at 200 Willie Palmer Way. This interesting program will have black history exhibits and speakers, music, crafts and refreshments, and activities for adults and children. Condolences: Please send your condolences to the Davis family as they are grieving the death of Anthony (Tony) Davis, 60 of Leesburg. He died Aug. 11 at his home. He was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Leesburg. Survivors include his wife, Olive R. Davis of Leesburg; a son, Hudson R. Davis of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Rebecca V. Davis of Leesburg; and two sisters, Merlene Rogers and Joyce E. Davis, both of Lexington, Ky. Mr. Davis was buried in Mount Zion Community Cemetery in Leesburg. Please continue to pray for the family.
