Schools conserving in October

Loudoun County Public Schools – along with Loudoun County government -- is participating in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Month in October.

This is part of a national effort to promote greater understanding and awareness of energy sources and ways to conserve energy. Programs and activities will focus both on what Loudoun County employees can do in their homes and offices and what residents and businesses can do to save energy and reduce their carbon footprint.

Each week in October the LCPS Energy Education Team will be offering energy-saving tips.

Some tips:

  • Make sure to turn off all computers and monitors in classrooms at the end of each week and turn off monitors at the end of each day.

  • Keep doors and windows closed and locked.

  • Keep lights off when rooms are not in use, even for a few minutes.

  • Report outside lights that are on in the daytime.

  • Report water leaks.

The 2008-2009 school year marks the LCPS Energy Education Program’s 15th anniversary year. The system LCPS uses was developed in partnership with Energy Education Incorporated. LCPS is one of 900 school districts across the United States that use this process.
