Visits and softball

By Betty Shiflett

On the road again: Neighbors have been traveling, visiting and traveling with visitors. Let me explain. Jackie Walters and her son, Forrest, traveled to Massachusetts, where they visited relatives and then to Acadia National Park on the Maine coast. They love it there, and Jackie got to visit with a nursing school friend.

The Cinelli's other son, Will, a rising junior at Northwestern, is serving a summer internship in Alaska. He's with the Goldpanners baseball team, learning more and polishing up his abilities as a sportscaster. In fact, Will is on the Panners' Web site -- Goldpanners.com.

The traveling visitors were Michelle Foster's mother, Shirley and her sister, Denise Houlck, who came here from Iowa. The girls toured around Northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. (Denise attended UVA and loves this part of the country.) After the daily jaunts, Michelle and John treated everybody to a variety of Italian dinners. And now mom and sis and sis's golden retriever, Phoebe, a sister to Michelle and John's canine, Hannah, are being greatly missed. Understandable.

Softball: The Liberty fastpitch softball team -- Ginna Theerman, catcher – went to “states” and “regionals,” which is very good. They lost the toss and games a couple of times and then got washed out -- almost literally -- in Wilson, N.C.

They were coming on strong, catching up and about to get ahead when there was a downpour/delay of game for four hours. When the game resumed, the team had lost momentum. They have a sunny outlook though, saying it was a great experience.

Birthday greetings next Wednesday to Peacock Farm neighbor Sarah Conant. We wish you many more.
