'Bordeaux Betrayal,' sidewalk sale, and the Bluemont concert

By Cheryl Kosmann

'Bordeaux Betrayal': The time has finally arrived and the third book in the series of four books is ready. "The Bordeux Betrayal" by Ellen Crosby, which was inspired by the Swedenburg Winery, is available. You may also come by for a personal signing on Aug. 17 beginning at noon. This is the best wine mystery yet in the series and Ellen will be on hand to share behind-the-scene stories of how her and Juanita Swedenburg worked on their plot.

Sidewalk sale: Middleburg is cleaning out its closets and storage areas and moving into the streets on Saturday, Aug. 2, for its second annual Middleburg Summer Sidewalk Sale, sponsored by the Middleburg branch of the Rappahannock National Bank.

"We all know that consumers are very aware of their discretionary budgets right now, and the town wanted to add an incentive to get people to come out for our annual sale, so we thought a gas card would be a fun incentive," said Middleburg Business and Professional Association President Jo Ann Hazard. "Participating MBPA retail members will be given a $20 gas card to hand out to a lucky shopper to encourage people to come and shop during this annual sale."

There will be more than 20 participating stores and seven restaurants that will be giving away a gas card and providing special deals. Deals include: up to 75 percent off at Tully Rector as well as its very popular shoe sale, 20 percent off of everything at Felton Jewelers, and Salamander Touch will be offering 20 percent off of all Mistral Bath & Body products. Lou Lou, Beyond the Pale, the Fun Shop, Annie's, Books & Crannies, Journeyman, The Country Way, Santangelo & Sandridge, Byrne Gallery will also be among those participating. Both the Middleburg Country Inn and Red Fox Inn will be offering special rates for shoppers for a Friday to Saturday stay. The first night, Aug. 1, will be 50 percent off, and the second night, Aug. 2, will be at the regular rate. The Middleburg Summer Sidewalk Sale will be held throughout the town. All the participating stores will be marked with balloons. Business hours for the sale will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For information or reservations at the Middleburg Country Inn, call 540-687-6082 or visit www.middleburgcountryinn.com. For information or reservations at the Rex Fox Inn, call 540-687-6301 or visit www.redfox.com. For more information on the sale, contact Kristine Benson, chairwoman and sponsor from Rappahannock National Bank, at 540-687-3500 or Jo Ann Hazard at 540-687-6082.
