'The Dark Knight'

Staring madness in the face has never been such a delightful ride. Opening with a violent bank robbery, "The Dark Knight" grabs you and refuses to relinquish control over the next two and a half hours of your life.

Christian Bale is back as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the new film from director Christopher Nolan. The criminal on the loose is one that has squarely targeted Batman as the individual that must be removed to help crime run rampant in Gotham city. His name is The Joker (Heath Ledger.)

The Joker has issues of his own, and from the opening sequence, you know that this incarnation of the Joker will take you to the places that superhero films have seldom ventured.

From that opening bank robbery, it is obvious that Ledger's Joker will take us to the depths of madness whether we are ready for it or not. And this journey makes for an incredible ride. Ledger will show you the true mind behind the Joker. This performance embodies the Joker as it should be displayed.

Almost lost in the mayhem is the wonderful performance of Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent. He delivers the smooth all-American charm of Gotham's face against crime and takes all challenges that face him to develop his character.

"The Dark Knight" will leave the youngest and most impressionable viewers with nightmares. However, it's always darkest just before the dawn, and "The Dark Knight" shines a light on a new era in film, an era in which we realize it is possible for a "popcorn" movie to be so much more.
