Summer reading programs
This summer, many reading programs and opportunities are available for kids of all ages. Here are some of them:
M is for Mystery
Loudoun County public libraries are running this program through Aug. 11.
For children 11 and younger, record the number of books or magazines you have read or the time you have spent reading. When you have read 50 books or 25 hours, you will receive a reading certificate and be entered into a prize drawing.
For ages 12 to 18, read 36 hours to be entered for a prize.
Stop by a local library branch or visit library.loudoun.gov to learn more.
Reading suggestions
Loudoun County Public Schools recommends that all children entering kindergarten through 12th grade read over the summer. Contact your school for more specific information.
Summer reading helps students develop reading as a lifelong skill, cultivates independent learning and introduces them to new material.
For more information, visit www.loudoun.k12.va.us, click "Academics," click "English" and then click "Summer Reading."

For middle or high school students, a contest online at www.teenreads.com can also get them reading.
In the Beach Bag of Books Contest , go online through July 31 and enter to win by reading excerpts of some books and explaining which you like and why.
You will have the chance to win a beach bag full of 10 books.
