Knight Ball

The Knights of Leesburg Post 181 own a 15-1 record and sole possession of first place in Virginia's District 16 of American Legion.

On July 9 Leesburg defeated Warrenton, then the district's second-place team, 6-3 at Park View High School. Starter Cole Shain didn't allow a hit until the eighth inning, striking out seven. Dan Lyons blasted a two-run homer.

The Knights picked up a pair of forfeiture wins on July 12 as Stafford did not have the correct time for the beginning of a scheduled double-header. Each game was entered into the books as 7-0 Leesburg victories.

Leesburg travelled to Remington for a double-header July 13, sweeping Post 247 with scores of 10-1 and 18-5.

Right-hander Geoff McCowat owns a 4-0 record on the mound with a 1.13 ERA, complemented by Shain's 3-0 mark with a 0.95.

Matt Irwin leads the team with 12 RBI, 21 hits and a .538 average.

Leesburg is two games up on second-place Stafford with three contests remaining on the schedule.
