Something Hot: Artists living within a 75-mile radius of Leesburg are invited to submit original artwork to the seventh annual Something Hot juried exhibition hosted by Gallery 222. Artists may submit two pieces of original artwork. Artwork will be accepted at the gallery Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Entry fee is $25.

The exhibit will be juried that afternoon by artist/professor Don Depuydt of Leesburg, who will provide a critique in the evening, beginning at 7 p.m.

Work that is selected will be displayed in Gallery 222 Aug. 1-30. An opening reception will be held Friday, Aug. 1, during Leesburg's First Friday event in the downtown historic district.

Fellowships available: The Virginia Commission for Arts invites Virginia-based artists and writers to apply for the 2008-09 Artist Fellowships in Crafts and Playwriting. Applications are due Aug. 1. Fellowships of $5,000 are awarded annually by the commission to recognize the creative excellence of individual Virginia artists and to support their pursuit of artistic excellence.  Artists in the disciplines of crafts and playwriting, who are legal residents of Virginia at the application deadline and who plan to remain in the state for the coming year, are eligible to apply.
