Let's support the Lenah school site

Weighing in on the controversy concerning the Lenah school site, I would remind everyone concerned that the Lenah school site was chosen by a committee charged with planning a smooth transition for the growing student population of Dulles South.

The committee’s recommendation won approval, and a construction timeline was put in place on the county calendar. Now, at this late date, there are those who wish to destroy these efforts (not-in-my-backyard?) and start the process over. It is too late for a change to be made; the train has left the station. I hope that the Board of Supervisors will stick to the plan, even in the face of some opposition. The Board may never please everyone, but I believe it is their duty to serve and protect Loudoun county students.

These students are depending on the Board to protect their interests once again, much as the Board did several years ago when they agreed to build two high schools in one year (Briar Woods and Freedom) to keep student upheaval to a minimum. This idea was controversial to some at the time, but history now shows that it was certainly the right thing to do. For these reasons, I support the Board in building the schools at the Lenah site as planned.
