Rain Barrels for Sterling and Hillsboro
Both Eastern and Western Loudoun will get a chance to build their own rain barrels in two workshops hosted by the Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District this month. The first will be held Thursday, October 9 at the Old Stone Schoolhouse in Hillsboro, beginning at 6:00 PM. The next will be held at the Loudoun Farm Heritage Museum in Sterling on October 20 at 10:00 AM. To register, call or drop by the Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District office at 30 Catoctin Circle SE, Suite H in Leesburg. They can be reached at 703-777-2075.
Rain barrels are something anyone with a house can do to conserve valuable tap or well water. Potable (drinkable) water isn't necessary for watering gardens, washing cars, or flushing toilets, and utilizing rain barrels can also help to capture roof top run off that might otherwise just go down the storm drain. Even a small rainfall can fill a 55 gallon rain barrel connected to an average sized single family home roof, and that water can be valuable, especially during times of water use restriction during droughts.
So take your turn in the barrel and save a little water and attend one of the workshops!

Openings are still available for the Monday, October 20th workshop at 10 AM at the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum. Call 703-777-2075 to register!
