Sangria - No longer illicit, illegal, or contraband in Virginia.  We're simply silly and wild in the Commonwealth!

Sangria Ban Lifted in Virginia

You may recall my blog several months ago about a rogue Virginia ABC agent pouring gallons of La Tasca's authentic Sangria down the drain (I know - horrors).  The crime?  La Tasca injected a bit of Brandy into the fruit infused wine, as is the authentic Spanish recipe for Sangria.

An archaic, Virginia alcohol regulation outlawed any spirits co-mingled with wine (Kir Royales and Bellinis were also illegal under this rule).  Well, Delegate Adam Ebbin (D- 49 District) heard about the debacle and introduced language that effectively repealed the ban.  The ban was officially lifted on July 1 and Shana McKillop, Managing Partner of La Tasca in Old Town (607 King Street) held a Sangria Soiree to Celebrate.  Special host was Delegate Ebbin, of course.

Here's a Sangria toast to La Tasca, authentic Sangria, and a politician with common sense!
