At the Hebron facility in North Leesburg, Grace Major believes in the power of selfless service, providing the homeless with an unconditional love.

Isaiah 40:35, 3-7 “Strengthen the feeble hands"

Isaiah 40:35, 3-7 “Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you."

“Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped.”  “Then will the lame leap like a deer and the mute tongue shout for joy.  Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.”

“The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs.  In the haunts where jackals once lay, grass and reeds and papyrus will grow.”

The Good Shepherd Alliance (GSA) uses a network of community volunteers to assist us in maintaining our facilities and work with homeless women and children. The organization has called on local painters, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, roofers, car mechanics and landscapers to restore living spaces, vehicles and outdoor areas. Software engineers and technicians have helped to build a new server and computer network and establish computer workstations at all of our facilities. Physicians, lawyers and counselors support our residents living in crisis situations. Many high school students volunteer and supply much needed support as tutors for children at the shelters and sorting and hanging of clothing and replenish items on the shelves at our thrift store location at the Regal Center in Sterling. We are partnering with ECHO and using many of their employees to help in our Sterling store.

We solicit donations from churches, service organizations, civic clubs and our dynamic business community. Food is provided for those in our program through the support of neighboring grocers and markets and clothing is available to them from the inventory of the Good Shepherd Alliance’s Thrift Store which is located in the Regal Center on Route 7 in Sterling, Virginia.

GSA has been receiving homeless people since 1983 and as Loudoun County’s population reaches 300,000 people, so does the number of homeless increase.  Since our inception, GSA has registered more than 4,000 people in our shelters.  From Sterling to Purcellville, from South Riding to Loudoun Heights, from county line to county line, the Good Shepherd Alliance is everywhere working to provide a safe haven to those needing basic shelter, food and clothing!  We assist people in their time of greatest need!  Wherever you find the sick, hurt, abused, and the unloved, you can find the Good Shepherd Alliance.

GSA impacts the lives of lost and unfortunate families and individuals every day by showing them love and a willingness to walk with them as they tackle their most difficult burdens.  While providing them with shelter and a safe haven, GSA staff and volunteers share about God’s love and faithfulness.  By supporting GSA’s family shelter, women and children’s shelter, or transitional home for pregnant women, you can have a direct impact on the lives of the poor in your community.  While we are not all called to the same ministry, perhaps God has called you to this reasonable service.

We ask everyone to please be conscious of the poor that live among us.  Be men and women of courage. Be strong in faith.  Above all things, do everything in love and please be like the Good Samaritan!
